I recommend to adopt from MARL, The have a good establishment and a variety to choose from. They more or less, allow you to go choose your own and go from there. Adoption is fairly easy.

I Do Not recommend bringing any animals in, if you are against euthanization. They are not a no-kill shelter. Certain breeds, age, health, population etc. Will have the animals euthanized pretty fast.

I adopted a dog on 08/30/23. She had to be fixed t next day, so I had to leave her there to be fixed on 08/31/23, and come back to pick her up on 09/01/23. Every thing was going fine until I saw another puppy that I wanted. I asked about it being possible to adopt him too, and they said all I had to do was pay an additional adoption fee. I said I would be back on 08/31/23 to get him after my Dr appointment. I went back to get him, and they let me go get him out of his cage, bring him to the front desk to be told the director put a hold on him for someone else. I told them I was coming back to get him. I said I didn't want the first puppy because I was a little upset about the second puppy being yanked a way from me like that. I asked to speak with the director, but she was in a meeting all day, so I went home. Wh I came back to pick up the first puppy she wouldn't let me have her. This puppy was for my mom that has dementia, and lost her puppy about three months ago, and she really wanted this puppy named Poppy, and the director knew that and didn't care. So she took both dogs away from me just because she could. Don't ever go to Mississippi Animal Rescue League. They don't even keep the animals cages clean. While I was looking at dogs, they were all filthy. Those poor animals need help so bad, but when someone cares, and comes to help not one but two dogs find a loving home, well they don't want that I guess.

Coming in, it's pretty much like a self-serve shelter. You sign in, ask for a leash, and browse and choose which animals you want to interact with either outside or in the visitation/play areas. The facility is very clean and doesn't smell nearly as bad as other shelters. The adoption process takes an hour at most and depending on the animal, they can go home the same day. We adopted our new puppy Zora from here the other day. They do take care of shots and neuter/spay. Our little baby was as healthy as can be!

      A couple things to note:

      1. This is definitely a kill shelter. Lots of animals get euthanized here after a certain amount of time, so be cautious when surrendering an animal here, especially pitbulls. There were pitbulls in the back in an area that's completely off limits and NO pitbulls up for adoption. I'll let you figure out why.

      2. Some staff members can be pretty rude. They don't really interact much and they kinda give you that "what do you want" look when you approach them. Kinda annoying, if you ask me, but I ignored it for the sake of Zora.

VERY HORRIBLE PLACE. They killed my dog, and didn't even care. So what happened was I took my jack russell mix to this place and figured they could fix her leg. Someone had hit her, and killed the nerve in one of front legs. I told my dog before I went into the place to cry if she needed me and she did. The manager came out and talked to me about the situation. I gave them my number, and the told me she called me but she didn't My number had 4 digits at the end, and the last number was a 2, not a 8 The lady told me she dialed my number, in which she lied, and finally admitted she dialed an 8 instead of a 2 and then she put my dog to sleep. She kept on telling my dog was in pain in which she wasn't.

The manager even threat to call the cops on me if I didn't get out of the faculty, but I wasn't leaving until I got my dog's body. After about 20 mins of us arguing and trying to get the situation straighten out. The manager got one of her volunteers to get my dog's body. They then bought my dog's body out in a big garbage bag as if they didn't care. They were so rude about it, and had no care in what they were doing for their animals.

The front of the place is run by unprofessionals (volunteers) who don't even know what they are doing what so ever. I guess the manager is out in the back playing video games. They not only upset me, they upset my sister, and my other pets too.

I am really pissed about this place, AND recommends that no one in their right mind or bad mind to go here. Take your pets somewhere else, and please if you do go here please ask to speak to a professional not a volunteer. These people are beyond rude, and have no idea what they are doing.

Horrible place for the 250 dogs they told us they have. The place is falling apart from inside and out. I feel sorry for these dogs. We were interested in adopting a dog and one of the staff members showed us around he was nice and provided a lot of information. We where on our way out the door when the So called Director lady walked in and was a total bitch! (Including the white male that came in with her! )she basically kicked us out during open hours because it was 10 min before 5:00pm! She most likely needs a new job! Have someone that actually cares!

I carried three healthy puppies and put them up for adoption I left my number and told them if they didn't find them a home I would pay to adopt them to keep them from killing them. They told me that they would be adopted quickly. I went back three days later and they wouldn't tell me anything about my puppies at first finally they told me that they were still there and healthy. I drive back down there today and they have killed my healthy puppies (that I left my number and let them know I was willing to pay to get back) because they didn't have room for them. When I asked why they didn't call me. They told me that would have been to much for there technicians to do!!!! MISSISSIPPI ANIMAL RESCUE LEAGUE ARE ANIMAL KILLERS!!!!

Do not take strays there! Found a sweet dog that no one claimed. Couldn't keep him so my wife brought him and his bed/toys to MARL. He was very adoptable and it was obvious he was well taken care of. They cheerfully took him and my wife headed home. On the way, she happened to mention to a friend what she was doing and the friend said to go right back because they would kill him for sure. She wasn't wrong. Literally 10 minutes later my wife was back. They were less than cheerful this time. They lied about why they couldn't give her back the dog. Turns out he was on his way to be put down right then and he was heavily sedated. My wife insisted, so they finally let her have him. He had to be carried to the car, we were afraid he wasn't going to make it. They wouldn't tell her what they gave him. After seeing a real vet, thankfully he did make it. It took almost a week for him to recover. We found him a good home ourselves. This place is not about taking care of animals. A quick search on social media will prove that if you're skeptical.

This is the largest animal rescue in Central Mississippi. They take in lots of critters and never turn anyone in need away. They take in healthy and unhealthy. They take in very young and very old.

They have a "Rainbow Room" where you can bring in your animal and they will put it to sleep for you if you cannot afford to go to a vet for this service. They are compassionate and kind.

They have a vet on staff and I had a friend get an opinion on a very badly injured critter she had found for no charge.

      I do not envy them.

They do more adoptions than all the little organizations in Jackson put together.

I think we would be in ankle deep in critters if it were not for these folks. They help many homeless critters find great homes!
