We adopted our girl in 2019, our experience was great! I feel they strike a good balance of vetting potential adopters, while really trying to get their animals in permanent homes so they can help the next batch of homeless animals. The adoption fees are fair and include the basic vaccinations and of course the spay/neuter if needed. My son and his wife also adopted a pup in 2021 and they are so happy with him. I don't know the past history, my experience with the rescue has been nothing but positive, with people who really care about the welfare of the animals in their care.

On April 26th 2022 I adopted a dog from you named Corky. From what I understand I was the 3rd owner because the second owner put him up for adoption again with you. A week ago I had to put him to sleep after he mauled me for the second time after biting my son, and neighbors pit bull. Corky definitely had aggressive issues from the first owner and should never of been put up for adoption a second time. I have now lost a dog I fell in love with, and spent over $600. In response to my e-mail to you I got a generic sorry/to bad response that didn't even relate to my concerns. These people do not care about you or the animals !! Just the $$$...

I adopted my amazing dog almost 3 years ago from hoof woof & meow, and I'm so glad I did. They were extremely communicative and helpful with any questions I had. I was able to get pictures until we met which was so nice of them. You can tell they care so much for the dogs they have and they truly want them to find good homes.

We recently adopted sweet gal from HWMR. She is adapting to our family well. Our foster mom gave us a great information for the dog's care. Although she is an energetic puppy, you can tell she was well loved by her gentle demeanor. Thank you hoof woof

If I could give less than 1 start i would. We are heartbroken to say the very least. We feel our pup we adopted was extremely overlooked or the staff is TOO overwhelmed for whatever reason. He was very very ill & we had to say goodbye :( only 4 days after we adopted him. By goodbye I mean rainbow bridge goodbye
It is a loooong horrible story and impossible experience. I cannot recommend this shelter at all. Sorry ...Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Michele P.Elk Grove Village, IL106724Aug 4, 2022
I enjoy fostering for this group. The dogs and finding the perfect home is what we focus on. The team is organized and efficient. It's amazing the work they do from rescue transport to rehabbing the rescue and getting the pup healthy to finding the best fit in a furever home.

I'm almost 60 years old, and over the course of my life have adopted cats and dogs from at least 7 rescue organizations. I've been lucky to have always had good experiences, and I am happy to share that HWM is an especially good organization. The people who devote their volunteer time to animal rescues are very special people! HWM uses foster parents for their pets, and having the foster mom present while we met a littler of puppies was enormously helpful to hear about the different personalities and find a good fit for our puppy and for our family, which includes an older dog and two cats. Puppy joined our family a few months ago and is doing great. I highly recommend HWM.

...where do I even start.
I rescued a lot of animals in my life., wild and domestic. I had three dogs at one point, all rescues. My current puppy is getting older, he is 9 years old and he is the only pet we owned at the moment so we decided to get him company, a sibling to play and keep him going. My obvious first move was to research local shelters. We found a doggie that we fell in love with and scheduled meet and greet. The foster mom was a nightmare from the moment she met with us. Making long story short, it was an aweful experience that left us broken hearted.
I thought I will never say this but honestly you are better off getting a dog from a reputable breeder.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

Thank you for your feedback, we are honored to be a part of an animal rescue community that is so passionate about our shared cause. We're sorry that you had that experience with one of our fosters, and that your concerns were not addressed at the time. Adopting a new family member should be a memorable and happy experience. It is important to us to build a relationship with our fosters, volunteers, and the families that adopt our animals. Your feedback is a vital part of reconstructing our processes in order to better serve the homeless animals we rescue, and the loving families that they become a part of. Over the past year, there have been changes within the organization and our policies to improve the fostering and adoption experience. Communication is vital, and we strive to promote an environment where fosters and adopting families can voice their concerns and be heard. We'd love to talk to you about these changes and your past experience to ensure that we are going in the right direction. Thank you again for sharing your experience.

My wife and I became aware of HWMAR when we saw the puppy "Woodstock" in the news in the spring of 2016, and decided to adopt. We attended the rescue's PuppyPalooza in May, and adopted not one, but two gorgeous pups. Josie and Jackson came from different litters, but they are the same age and were cared for in the same loving foster home. They're as close as two dogs can be. A few months later, in November 2016, we learned that Josie's birth mother, who had never been socialized, was still waiting for adoption. Juno, too, had been cared for in the same foster home as our puppies, and so Jackson knew and loved her as well. Two weeks later we brought her into our family. We couldn't be happier! All three pups adore each other, and are a constant source of joy in our house.
If not for Hoof, Woof, and Meow Animal Rescue, our pups night not even be alive. Juno and Josie -- along with the remainder of Josie's littermates -- were discovered in a kill shelter by a HWMAR volunteer. She leapt into action and ended up fostering not only Juno and her tiny babies, but Jackson and his nine brothers and sisters, as well.
We can't thank HWMAR enough for all that they do for animals in need. They are 100% foster-based, so every dog is in a loving home while they're waiting for their forever family. They are the best rescue out there!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
