    • Q:

What is the adoption process? i live in an apartment, is a renters agreement required to adopt?

      A:

I know some places do requires it but at this specific one in Dedham didn't require an agreement but they do ask and write down whether you do or not. The process was pretty easy.

My boyfriend and I just adopted our beautiful kitty, Flower, last week and we could not have been happier with the experience!
We were those annoying customers who showed up 10 minutes before they opened and just waited at the door- anyone whose ever worked anywhere knows how irritating that can be sometimes.. but they still welcomed us in when 12 o'clock hit with smiles and asked how they could help.
They sent us to the cat room with Heather, who was incredibly helpful explaining how the cards on the front of cages worked- they use colored dots to explain personality types *brilliant*
This is our first experience with having a pet on our own, and the entire staff made the process so easy and completely welcomed all of our questions.
All of the animals are well taken care of and up to date with vaccines. We were given a folder with all of Flowers medical history, which they sat down with us and explained all the doctor vocab. They gave us extra prints of everything- some for vets, some for landlords, some for us etc.
Once we signed some contracts and paid, she was all ours and we got to take her home! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking to adopt!

surrendered whole liter of kittens at 10-12 weeks old told me was to young to treat for ringworm and told me they were euthanizing them. i can never forgive myself for putting them in murders hands.! they can be treated as early as 2-3 weeks another vet told me literally livid right now... i would have saved them if one didnt have a prolapsed anus... pissed.... nothing but cat murderers here. i feel like shit because of this place... take your business elsewhere!

What is happening to rescue centers? It is as if they don't want you to adopt a cat. The cat room is tiny. About the size of a bedroom in a small home and that is filled with cages. There is a small aisle to walk to the cages. Then, because of this, you have to go in when someone else comes out. There is only room for one. I mean nothing like feeling pressured to make a selection - I can't imagine what happens when it is busier. I suppose there is a room that you can take your selection once you make one but my gosh... good luck if you are claustrophobic. Seeing how lovely the building is I would have expected space. I think the staff should make some directions or something for when you walk in so you know what you are doing. I was just standing there waiting while there were people with sick animals before me. There were perfectly nice but I was standing there needlessly.

I have been calling for about a month leaving voicemails explaining how I have come across a white homing pigeon, me thinking I have done an act of kindness has turned into a nightmare. I was in pet supplies plus and saw a flyer of a white dove missing, I have an elderly neighbor that had what I thought to be the same white dove, after capturing the bird and bringing it to what I thought was the owner was not the owner. I have had two back surgeries in the past 4 months and cannot care for this bird on top of my already mini zoo. i have yet to get even a phone call back as to what I can do and where I can bring this homing pigeon. the Boston chain keeps referring me back to dedhams ARL. it really makes me feel I should not have done this act of kindness esp when this facility isn't even giving a call back

Very friendly staff and it's very clean. I adopted a kitten from this here and he came with all of his vaccines up to date and he was neutered. They gave us a folder that had a list of his vaccines, his breed, the vets name that did the surgery and vaccines, he has has a chip inside of him that they did. They gave us a bag of food and it was all for $200 which I thought wasn't a bad price for all that I got. My kitten was about 8 weeks old when i got him. I will say if you want a kitten, they go fast! When I picked up my kitten I had to wait until the place opened and there were about 3 other women waiting with me for the same exact reason. If I decided to adopt another animal I will go through this place! Thank

I just wanted to say thanks so much to Kori for going above and beyond on the adoption of our new puppy. She stayed past close to make sure we understood his paperwork and had everything he needed to get started and we are already enjoying him so much! I would definitely recommend this shelter to any body. I have been in a lot of shelters and kennels and this was by far one of the cleanest and most friendly atmospheres.

      I love this place.

My boyfriend and I adopted our first kittens from here back in November 2010, fairly recently. The staff was very helpful to us in making our decision. They let us take the kittens to play with them in a room. They answered all of our questions with patience, intelligence, and diligence. It was a wonderful experience.

We went in there wanting to adopt one cat. We ended up getting two. They were in a cage together and the placard said that they have "been together their whole lives and would like to come home together" so that's what we did. Yeah I know we are softies! We love our kids (kitties) and couldn't imagine our lives without them!

We came back here in April 2011, five whole months since we adopted our kids. We came back with a whole bunch of donations, some kitten food, KMF (kitten milk formula), nipples and bottles for their foster program, some toys for the dogs there, and some other stuff. I was very surprised when one of the staff recognized me and my boyfriend. We weren't expecting to even be remembered (since it's been awhile and I'm sure lots of people come in and out of that place). But I guess that is just a testament to how awesome this place is.

I am definitely coming back here. I'll be back in a month or so to drop of more donations and for a health check up and rabies vaccinations for my children. In the near future I would like to adopt a dog and there is no doubt in my mind where I will adopt from.

I am thoroughly impressed with the adoption wing of this shelter! I have been a lifelong cat owner and have always gotten my cats at shelters (shelter cats make the best pets!), but my experience here was particularly enjoyable.

I was able to visit the available cats and read their bios, and then once I had found one I wanted to spend some time with they brought me into a private room to get to know her. Also, they let me know that her previous owner had mentioned some bad behavior, but that they hadn't noticed it at the shelter. (I felt like some other shelters I visited were less than forthright about past kitty indiscretions.)

The staff really seemed to care about finding the right kitty-person match rather than just getting cats adopted quickly.

Bonus: They will provide free nail trimming for any cat adopted through them.

Is a very clean, nice place, but really never has the type of animal I'm looking for. Usually I like a smaller dog, so yes if you're looking for a bigger dog try this place out. Otherwise, eh.
