Turning for Home (TFH), the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association’s racetrack-based aftercare program at Parx Racing, provides a comprehensive pathway for retiring Thoroughbreds to move safely into second careers and loving homes. Since 2008, TFH has assisted over 4,600 horses through a continuum of services that includes emergency surgeries, veterinary diagnostics and treatment, castrations, rehabilitation, professional retraining, and responsible rehoming.
TFH operates through a vetted network of experienced partner farms and licensed veterinarians across the East Coast. Program dollars flow directly to the caregivers providing each horse’s day-to-day care and recovery, ensuring resources are targeted where they matter most. Every placement is backed by ongoing tracking and a lifetime return policy; when a horse needs more time, TFH brings the horse back for additional schooling and re-placement until the match is right.
The program is supported primarily by Parx racehorse owners through the PTHA (including the $100-per-start owner contribution), with additional support from jockey contributions ($50 per race) and private donors. By combining industry stewardship with hands-on horsemanship, TFH delivers results-driven, humane aftercare that honors each horse’s past—and secures its future.
