Turning for Home (TFH) is an exceptional program that ensures racehorses transitioning from their racing careers have a safe and supported retirement. By working with a wide network of stakeholders, including racehorse owners, breeders, jockeys, horsemen, and private individuals, TFH has provided over 4,350 horses with safe and dignified second careers since 2008.
The program covers a range of essential services for retiring racehorses, such as emergency surgeries, veterinary care, diagnostics, castrations, rehabilitation, retraining, and rehoming. TFH partners with experienced and reputable farms and veterinarians across the East Coast to ensure each horse receives the necessary care. Through these partnerships, funds are directly allocated to the farms and veterinarians for the horse’s care and rehabilitation.
In addition, TFH is dedicated to finding loving new owners for these horses, tracking their progress, and offering continued support for their wellbeing. The program also offers that, should a horse need further care or retraining, they can be returned to a nearby partner farm where they can be retrained and rehomed, as often as it takes to make the right match.
By facilitating a safe, responsible, and loving transition for racehorses, TFH plays an important role in providing them with the chance to enjoy a fulfilling life beyond the racetrack. We are supported mainly by racehorse owners at Parx, the PTHA.
